Deliverence From the Mire

Yes, our meeting for Revival has come to an end; but that never means that REVIVAL must stop! Last night we listened to another message from the Lord. All week the messages have been to the church. And Friday was no exception. The text was taken from Isaiah 50: 10 - 11 and Jeremiah 38: 6. In summary, we listened as we were told about a man who did everything right-a true man of God-one who obeyed, but walked in darkness. Jeremiah also was a man who did good and obeyed, yet he found himself cast into a dungeon where he sunk in the mire. The question: Have you ever been down? You've prayed, you gave, you studied, you were faithful to the service of God; yet you become cast down.
There are answers.
  1. There is help in the brethren-our fellow saved members can be of help to us
  2. There is hope in the Bible-stay in God's Word, it is a guide and a lamp, it offers promises that are true
  3. There is healing in the balm-Christ will mend all that is broken in His time and his mercies are new every morning

Thank you to all who have prayed for the services, attended faithfully, brought food, sang songs, played the instruments, led singing and took the messages to heart with renewed sense of purpose!

Now, lets not forget to pray for the services Sunday morning that God will continue in a mighty way to speak to us through our pastor as well as our Sunday School and music.

Come and worship with us.

Ding...Ding...Dinner is Ready

Come one come all. Sand Hill Church is planning a dinner tonight July 28, (Friday) at 6:00 PM. Bring a dish or two, your Bible, a friend and come have fellowship on the natural food and a feast on the Word.

Beware

End of Revival services always seem a little sad. Some would say, let's keep a goin'. And if that were the will of the Father, it would be a good thing. But at some point in time the meetings do cease and we are expected to take what we have heard and apply it directly to our lives. My, my what a big job~

Just a gentle warning to beware and be on guard for our advisary. We have had such good meetings. We wouldn't want to let our guard down and give Satan or any of his a foothold in our personal lives or in the church as a whole. Satan does not like anything that would bring the Lord's people any closer than what they are. And right now, he's probably very upset with our services. So, just keep your eyes and your mind on the Lord today and just don't give him any reason to feel welcome.

If any do, let's pray that the destructive fire is quickly quenched and let those things die. Sometimes we just mess up. Hopefully this doesn't apply to anyone at church or in our community, but is only a reminder to pray and continue to be excited.

I wonder what message the Lord has for us tonight. I am anticipating something timely and motivating. Aren't you excited?

Thursday Night Service

The Lord sent us another timely message. The text came from III John 1-4. The 4th verse was the key verse. Did we notice the word "hear". There is no greater joy than to hear our children walk in truth. If we see, we are present and while that is good, we are there to corrrect. What a difference when we are not there with our children and they still do what is good. When others tell us good spiritual things that our children do of their own will we hear. What a difference!

Then the Lord directed us through the message to understand the things that we should all have or not have in our homes to make our families strong in the Lord. Daily prayer using a family altar, family and private devotions, our conversations centered around God, our behavior as good examples, and our constant visual displays of the Word were some of the things touched on. We could all improve in the area of family. Even if we don't have children at home, we should come together as couples and seek the Lord daily.

Some came to the altar for prayer. Remember them.

Speaking of family, I did not stay in the auditorium. It was my pleasure to take my granddaughter into the nursery where we could hear the message through the speaker and not interupt the service. However, a pleasant reminder to anyone in any service is this: If all is perfectly quiet all the time where you worship with no movement, or chatter, you probably have no children ; and that would not be good. Good discretion on the part of the parents, grandparents, caretakers and the members of the church where you are is essential. I realize that some of you have a well organized nursery. But most churches are not large and do not have the staff to do so. If you are the average American smaller church and do have some disruptions from babies or children in your church; be encouraging. Remember that children stay little only for a short time. Maybe you could offer to care for a little one occasionally. Or maybe you could spearhead an optional nursery or be a volunteer. Help is not limited by gender. It might make an eternal world of difference! And it just might be a part of your ministry...

A Candle and a Broom

There are no words tonight to express my gratitude to God for his message to us. God is abundantly blessing us with His Spirit and love. The text for tonight's message was taken from Luke 15: 1-3, 8. The message began with the woman sweeping for the lost coin and rejoicing when she found it; but we learned so much more. Here are a few things:

The Woman

  1. Was a bride: custom was to sew 10 coins on a head band to be worn on her wedding day to meet her groom
  2. Had 10 coins likened to the number of nations
  3. Is likened to the Church

The Candle

  1. Is the light of the poor not a lamp of the wealthy
  2. Is made of tallow (animal fat of a lamb) like our sacrificial lamb-Jesus
  3. Has a wick made of flax (beaten to produce pure linen threads) - likened to Jesus and His righteousness
  4. Purpose is to produce light made from fire-likened to Jesus, our light and righteous judge

The Broom

  1. Begins in the dirt with roots attatched to the Earth like the lost soul
  2. Must have a reaper (Sword of the Lord) to come and cut us off from this sinful dirty world
  3. Made of individual straw that must be added to others to do work and is bound together tightly at the top (the bottom may break, but the top stays attached
  4. Is trimmed even; everyone is the same
  5. Is bound with steel wire (steel is strong and is made from iron) and is likened unto the blood of Christ
  6. Is attatched to the wood handle (likened to a tree and notice the nail that holds it to the wooden handle)
  7. Is bound by four cords: as the people are bound by love, joy, fellowhip, and trust
  8. Purpose is to sweep out lost coins
  9. Can do nothing by itself it needs someone to guide it (as the church can do nothing of itself without the Holy Spirit

Bro. Jeff had a candle, a lighter, a new broom and an older "experienced" broom. The Lord mightily used him to bring the message to life. The message ended when he took out a knife and began to cut away the cords (of love, joy, fellowship and trust) as straw began to fall away and break. The broom appeared to be useless; but then showed us how that with help the straw that was left could be bound back together, maybe not in its former glory; but well enough to do the work of sweeping to find "a lost coin." And there is much joy when the lost coin is found.

Many came to the alter. A true spirit of revival was experienced tonight.

Please come join us in worship tomorrow. The revival is not in Bro. Bass; only through him as a mouthpiece. May we all be found faithful and sweeping.

Shhh...Don't Tell It

You can rest assured that the Lord has visited mightily with us again at Sand Hill Church! We had an "OH, me" service. The text was taken from II Samuel 1: 17 - 20. And the focus was on verse 20. Some of tonight's thoughts were
  • Saul hated David
  • David had many opportunites for revenge, but never did
  • People hurt us and some glory in the downfall of their brothers
  • Instead of glorying in the downfall of others...try to learn
  • You let God deal with it and you don't tell it
  • Keep church matters in the church-let it die
  • Don't give the devil a place to work
  • A tale-bearer (doesn't say "false") revealeth secrets but a faithful soul conceals it
  • Even true tale-bearing can destroy the church's or a person's reputation for a long, long, long time
  • Remember that what we tell others (even if it's true) can destroy
  • Someone wrongs you? Try to make it right. Talk to God. Let God do His work.
  • Exalt the Lord, Edify the saved, and Evangelize the lost

The message moved each of us to desire to be better brothers and sisters and not to hinder the work of God. Shh...don't tell it to others; tell it to God.

Come on out and worship with us tomorrow if you don't have a home church.

A Change in Revival Supper

There's been a change in plans. We regret to inform you that we will not have supper on Tuesday through Thursday before Revival Service; but we look forward to a Supper on Friday night at 6 PM before church. Come one, come all and enjoy the fellowship!

Monday NIght Service

Well, if you weren't able to come, you just missed it. We had another good message from the Lord about "Because of God's Mercy..." taken from Romans 12:1. We were encouraged to put our lives on display, to die daily and become a living sacrifice and to be holy.

In one illustration he asked if we knew there was a hole in the floor of our house and every morning we got up, we walked straight toward that hole and tripped and fell in day after day after day, wouldn't that be kind of foolish? But don't we sometimes do just that instead of going around the hole and avoiding it? Another interesting saying was that sometimes the church will save 'em, soak 'em, and set 'em instead of the church trying to win 'em, wet 'em, and work 'em. Think on that one.

To put icing on the cake, one young lady came forward to make a public profession of her faith! Her name is Heather. Please rejoice with us and pray for her.

Again, please join us in our worship.

Revival Begins at Sand Hill Baptist Church

Bro. Jeff Bass is our visiting evangelist and Bro. Skip Holland is the pastor of Sand Hill Baptist Church. We had two wonderful messages today. The first message from the Lord was taken from
II Samuel 17: 23. We had a Bible lesson about Ahithophel and then a message about the "Unforgiving Man". What an interesting mystery; solved by the Word of God. Two young ladies came forward to make a profession of faith. Then, after a bountiful dinner we came back and heard the message "A Recipe for Revival" from II Chronicles 7: 12 - 16. One of the main ingrediants is PRAYER. Come, worship with us each night beginning at 7:00 PM.

VBS Success!

We had a fantastic Vacation Bible School! 52 enrolled with 11 teachers and helpers and a host of other volunteers in the kitchen. Mrs. Pat directed a great school. We learned a lot about the kinds of fruit that Jesus wants us to have and all in one fun-packed day! Special thanks to teachers Judy, Henry T., Janet, Mary, Essie and Rachel. Also to helpers Shannon, Barbara, Becca, Jennifer and Jonathan. Crafts were taken care of by Mrs. Vicky and Sam. The kitchen was kept straight by Lorrena, Naomi, Jean and Patsy. Our delicious burgers and dogs were grilled by our pastor, Bro. Skip, and assisted by Bro. Nolan and Bro. Rex. Our largest class was Sis. Janet's with 15. WOW! Thanks to all the children who came, we had a wonderful day!

Did you know there's a star in every apple? Did you know almost all fruit has seeds on the inside? Did you know that Jesus loves you and wants to show you his love?

Bethel Has Revival

We were in Revival with Bro. Ricky Mitchel and Bethel Baptist Church near Seminary, MS., through July 19. Praise the Lord, He is Good! The food has been eaten, the songs sung and the messages preached. The Lord is the source of all revival. Sunday morning began with a baptism and it just got better and better. Many came to the alter to pray and one soul made her profession of faith on Tuesday night. Her name is Allison. Please pray for her growth. Sunday 's AM message was Come, Let Me Tell You About the Unknown God", the PM message was "Be Ready, Put on the Whole Armor of God", Monday , "The Blood", Tuesday, "Be Ye Fishers of Men" and Wednesday began with "A Summary of the Life of Christ" and flowed into "The Judgement". Thank you for your prayers and your presence.

A special thank you to Bro. and Sis Ricky Mitchell and Bethel Church for supplying a beautiful place to rest and bountifully providing for all our physical needs during our stay. We came away refreshed and revived!
